General News
- No School on Monday, October 20th or Tuesday, October 21st. Enjoy the long weekend!
- Upcoming field trips will be announced soon, including Johnson & Wales University and the Museum of Nature and Science. Stay tuned for more details and for opportunities to chaperone.
- The 100 Mile Club is steam rolling! The 100 Mile Club is a program offering the challenge to run/walk/jog 100 miles over the course of a school year. Click here for more information. Most students still need to submit $10 for full participation in the program which includes a T-shirt at the 25-mile mark. We are completing daily runs in the neighborhood and would love parent volunteers who can help monitor students during recess (12:30 - 1pm). Please email Mr. Logan if you can help.
Reading
Students will read a paired set of articles of the design process. The articles will be used to assess essential skills like summarizing, using text evidence, and making inferences. These articles will also help inform our shift from sustainable economics to creating our own sustainable snack in EfS.
Writing
Students will submit finished realistic narratives this week after we work on creating varied sentence structures as well as editing for vivid descriptions. Also this week, we will write an on-demand information essay using the two articles from the reading work.
EfS
We're wrapping up our study of the materials life cycle of products next week and will use what we've learned about sustainability to Invent the Future of Snacks. Our next unit will be the focus of demonstration night next month and is an exciting exploration of how we define good food with sustainability in mind.
Math
Proportional relationships are becoming clearer as students have been identifying them in tables, graphs, and equations. This week, we'll continue applying them in scaling images up (enlargements) or down (reduction). Check here for assignments and lessons. We are in lessons 15 - 17 this week.
Homework
Monday - Write a situation involving proportional relationships, including a table of values and an equation.
Tuesday - Lesson 15: Problem Set # 1-4.
Wednesday - Lesson 16: Problem Set # 1-5.
Thursday - Lesson 17: Problem Set # 1-6.
