- No school next week for Thanksgiving break.
- We plan to send home report cards and read act plans (if applicable) on Thursday. We hope to get them back signed on Friday.
- If you are interested in seeing grades sooner I believe they are already posted on parent portal
Math (Wagner):
Topics = This week we're working on multi-step percent problems such as sales, discounts, commission, tax, and tip.
Essential Questions = Try to point out sales to your students when you're out shopping. If you have a coupon ... is it a percent, fraction, or amount off? What about signs that you see? Buy one get one? How do you calculate what the sale price will be in your head?
IXL skills = M.9 Multi step problems with percents
Reading/Writing (Piza):
Topics = This week we will be analyzing perspective and the shape of the plot. Students will graph out stories including their novels. By the end of this week, they should be half way through the book. We will also be working on our essays.
Essential Questions = Ask them about the shape of stories and how this compares to the idea of story arcs. Ask about different perspectives. They can work on IXL "K" skills as we keep developing context clue skills.
Science (Leventhal):
Topics = How do our taste buds work? How does my body perceive taste? We will be doing a energy bar taste test and sampling lab
Essential Questions = How do you evaluate different bars? How did your lab group make sure you were not swayed by one bar over another?
Education for Sustainability (EfS, Wagner)
Topics = This week we're playing catch-up a bit. Students have been working on writing argumentative paragraphs (in ACE form) about 3 topics in climate change and now we're moving on to learning how we can reduce our carbon footprint in different areas of our lives. So far we've learned about transportation and food choices. Students created a budget to look at how their transportation and food choices related to climate change. Eventually, they will use these budgets to make a choice on what area of their lives to reduce their climate impact.
Essential Questions = How do our food choices affect climate change?
English Language Acquisition (Zendle):
Topics = How have authors of the past used their poetry and prose to argue for positive change?
