Reading/Writing:
This week we will continue working with the topic of bullying. We will wrap up with:"Tuesday of the Other June" as we review story elements. We will also take an assessment using Commonlit.org. Students will work on their Introductions of their essays and begin research towards justification of the values they will use in the essays as well. Later in the week, we will read more from "Dear Bully".
Please help students read 20-30 minutes a night!
-Feel free to ask about their results in Commonlit.org later this week.
-Ask about the values they will employ in their essays.
-When watching TV or reading together, feel free to ask them about characters, setting, conflict, plot and theme. These are the five basic elements that we are reviewing.
Math:
This week students will be starting our first 7th grade unit on Rational Numbers. We will begin by reviewing positive and negative numbers, and then move into expanding our knowledge around rational/irrational numbers, absolute value, and writing equations using positive and negative integers.
Students will also start to recieve a Problem Set for homework this week. Students will be given class time to work on the Problem Set with a partner, but are expected to complete problems that are not solved at home.
H.1 Convert between decimals and fractions or mixed numbers
H.5 Put rational numbers in order report
H.6 Add and subtract rational numbers
Science:
This week in science we will continute to explore this idea of systems, but we are using it to better help us study the Earth and the various systems on this planet (biosphere, geosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere). Once students have a some background knowledge of this activated we are then comparing this system to other rocky planets (Mercury, Venus and Mars) within the solar system and trying to identify a planet with similar systems to Earth.
How are planetary geologists using evidence to build a stronger claim towards rocky planets being habitable?
