We had some fun today with our consultation visit from the J&W chefs.
No School next Monday and Tuesday for PTC!
Excursions:
*Denver Museum of Nature and Science (11.11, next Wednesday) We could use at least 2 chaperones. Please let Mr. Piza know if you can make it.
*Our visit to J&W: 11.18 (approximately 9:30-11:30) Families welcome to attend. The students will first cook and then present so families can show up later (~10:30). Please let me know if you plan to attend.
Parent Teacher Conferences: We have a schedule that you will be asked to use. As you sign up, you are requesting a time to speak with both Mr. Piza and Ms. Simone. Others (Kent, Leventhal) will be around as schedule permits (they work with 3 grades). Please click on the link and grab a spot.
Math: We've had an exciting week in math. We took the unit 1 (rates, ratios, proportions, and scaled drawing) final assessment last week and started moving on to our 2nd unit which is rational numbers. The main focus of this second unit is operations with positive and negative numbers. I'm really impressed with the background knowledge that most students have come in with so I think this unit will go fairly smoothly. For this week we will be taking our November interim assessment on Tuesday andWednesday. Students will have time to review on Monday and will hopefully go into the test feeling confident.
Conferences are coming up next week and I urge you to sign up for a time slot. During the conference, we will take a look at your students scores on the interim assessment, unit 1 mid and final assessment, homework, exit tickets, and their classroom citizenship.
Reading and Writing: We are moving into our second week of our Dystopian Sci-Fi Unit. Students will consider how a setting can help shape a character this week. Feel free to talk with students about their books. Ask them to share what they are working on! For writing, we are going to begin developing our research skills (for writing arguments). Students will be reading about various food values as they construct their own consumer definition of "good" food.
EfS: Students are still working on refining food concepts. Today, chefs came and consulted students about their ideas. These same chefs will support students in preparing the final product on Nov 18th at J&W.
