Demonstration Night is coming up soon and we will be showcasing our upcoming food project work. Please plan to visit and check out the work students will be developing around the idea of inventing a new "good" snack concept as part of our ongoing sustainable economics work.
Math: Hi 7th grade families! This week in math we're going to dive even deeper into ratios and proportions. Early in the week we will revisit proportional relationships represented in graphs, writing equations, and calculating the unit rate. As we get to the end of this unit the homework problems have gotten more difficult so expect fewer questions on their homework but each question will have many parts and steps. If you are checking your students homework make sure that all parts of each question are answered. Some students are still struggling with last weeks topics of multi-step percent and fraction word problems (i.e. something is 30% off what is the sale price). We will revisit this skill on Thursday this week for those still struggling and for those who have mastered it we will move on to more advanced topics.
Reading: This week, we are reading about Google's work with self-driving cars. The article will serve as our last text to develop artifacts for our end of unit portfolios. We are also working on finalizing the narratives that we are have been working on about what makes us happy. For more information, feel free to click here.
EfS: We are studying the material life cycle of products as part of our sustainable economics work. For an idea of a resource on the topic. Feel free to visit www.storyofstuff.org. It should be noted that this is a strong opinion piece and we are clear to let students know that.
