We have a bunch of news this week:
Science: The Urban Advantage science Fair project work is starting to begin. For the next 2 months your students will be working to create a full on science fair project. We will start with a testable question: which is a question that can be completed by a 7th grader and is creating new ideas or data. Ask your student about what they have been brain storming. Students will be able to submit their final projects for a chance to present at the City wide Science Celebration on May 7th. If you have any questions please contact me and also see the Urban Advantage website http://www.urbanadvantagedenver.org/
ILT (Kent): I am excited to let you know that we have switched our ILT groups and focus for the next six weeks. Students will be investigating Ancient World History. We will be learning about various ancient groups from around the world while continuing to practice analytical and argumentative writing skills.
Math: This week in math we'll be reviewing solving one-step equations and venturing into solving two-step equations. We will be doing this using inverse operations. IXL has some great practice problems for this topic, especially if your student is still struggling solving one-step equation. For IXL skills, try the 7th grade topics of T.5, T.6, T.7, and T.8. Have a great week!
Reading and Writing: This week, we are getting started with poetry. We will focusing on analyzing poems from top to bottom. The emphasis will be still be on using evidence to support answers about poetry and comparing common elements to other literature (short stories). This work will also impact our writing work as we flex our literary analysis essay muscles. This week we will be either getting started on companion books (a series of literary essays over the course of a book series) or refining our responses to an essay that explored the idea of freedom.
EfS: Students are learning about Economics as they prep for International Towne.
