Reading: We will be wrapping up using historical questions to conduct research and support claims this week. Next week, we will push the idea into modern debates about hot topics. We will also be writing narratives to conclude a short mini-unit into story writing. Our debates will become our next writing assignments.
Math: Thanks to everyone who made pi(e) day a success by donating a pie. We really appreciated it! Students were highly motivated to calculate their own Pi ratio by measuring their chosen pie. yum =)
This week in math we're circling back on very important math skills from 7th grade. We're switching gears from constantly learning new topics to reviewing previously learned topics and applying these skills to increasingly difficult situations. The motivation for this is the PARCC testing that will take place after spring break but I think the time to make some previously shaky skills even more concrete is time very well spent. Expect a short but challenging problem set for homework each weeknight.
EfS: Students have chosen to support the school food bag program as a way to support their community in our philanthropy unit. Students will host a race and the proceeds will go to help Ms. Sandy and her efforts.
Science: Please checking in on Science projects and the latest deadlines.
Excursions: We will not have any major excursions, but will going on longer walks/runs as part of our EfS unit. We have started making walks up to 1.5 miles. Students do not have to participate and can be left behind with work if any concerns arise. We will look to increase the amount as we seek to reach 100 miles this year. Last year our longest walk was around 8 miles.
After Spring Break, we should be heading to the library, The Museum of Art and eventually camping for the last three days of school.
Thanks,
7th Grade Team
