We hope that everyone had a restful spring break. We have a bunch this week, so please read all the way through.
PARCC Testing!: This starts next week and will continue for 6 days (plus make ups).
Students will have a shorter testing window this year, but each day will be harder. Please make sure that they get good sleep, eat well and are feeling ready to do their best. Attendance and being on time are a huge deal during this time frame as it keeps the test shorter and allows students to do their best during their designated testing times. Also, We are encouraging that as many students bring their own head phones for the test as the school has limited resources and students seem to take better care of their personal items.
Reading and Writing: This week we will be answering a series of immigration related questions regarding policy and the law. Students will use the New York Times and a panel of experts from the field to collect information. Later this week, they will present their findings and have students vote regarding the various view points. Along the way, we will do some PARCC practice and review Latin and Greek roots.
Math: I hope you all had a restful spring break. We start PARCC testing next week so this is our last week of PARCC review. This week we're focusing on equations, inequalities, and geometry review. The best use of time this week is to carefully do and review the assigned problem set each night and if there is extra time, to work on the IXL skills listed in this document.
EfS: The students are finalizing food ideas. We will be cooking these recipes after PARCC testing in a couple weeks. Next week, we begin our philanthropy work. Students will help organize a race, select a benefactor and host the race event the morning of Community Day on the 22nd. We are hoping to get families to show up and walk/run that morning as a show of support. More information is coming.
End of Year Camping: We will host an information meeting on community day (immediately after the race) to help answer any questions about our trip, get forms filled out etc. Our trip is the last week of the school year and helps us to get through some final challenges and reflect before going off to the summer.
Science: Students should be getting close to finishing their projects. Please check in with them about this. These are big projects and some students have a tough time completing this type of task.
Spring Behavior Reminder: Spring is in the air! That means that students start to feel the end is near, and for some this means they want to unravel a bit. We want to make sure that everyone has a strong finish. We will have both positive and negative consequences to help reward students and encourage that the end of the year is a productive and fun time for all.
Thanks!
