This week we have a quiet week of getting after our work. On to the updates:
Excursions: No Excursion this week. September is a quiet month. We will have at least 3 next month.
Reading and Writing: This week we will begin wrapping up our Anti-Bullying unit and Reading Bootcamp. Students will be completing their narratives and preparing their online portfolios (probably into next week). This will involve creating a website, completing work samples that demonstrate the key standards of the unit and reflecting on their progress. We also took our first Interims last week and their data will be posted to Illuminate (an online testing platform). We will work to analyze what students can see and then get information to families. The data is meant to be baseline and should show room for growth.
Math: This week in math we're wrapping up our unit on positive and negative rational numbers. Last week we focused on multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers. Most students did well with this skill in isolation but then struggled to separate the rules and concepts when we mixed it back in with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. We'll spend the beginning of this week taking a small step back to prove our thinking using number lines so we can be more confident we are using correct logic instead of confusing rules. Look for homework worksheets that combine all skill sets from this unit. We will begin our unit on ratio and proportions either later in this week if I feel we're ready to move on or at the beginning of next week if we need some more wrap up time for this first unit. Some related IXL skills you can practice at home are C.3, C.5, and C.7.
EfS: Students will be working to complete their systems unit and developing recommendations for various school systems.
Sports: There are Soccer Games and a Cross Country meet this week.
Thanks,
7th Grade Team
