I hope everyone is staying nice and warm on this cold morning. Please make sure to send students on these cold days with the appropriate layers. We will host inside arrival and recess on days that are excessively cold.
Excursions: Zoo next Monday. We will be conducting behavior observations as a lab and example of science fair idea. Keep an eye on the weather as we will be outside, so students need to have jackets, pants and warm clothes. They will be allowed to bring their back packs for handling layers.
Reading and Writing: We are wrapping up our nonfiction unit and research-based essays this week (maybe into next week).
Math: This week in math we're moving away from solving two step equations using bar models and moving to the more efficient and traditional method of solving using inverse operations. Students will do lots of online practice of this skill in class but doing some at home is always a great idea. IXL Skills S.5 and S.6 are especially useful. If your student can login to Google Classroom I have a ton more skills and help links posted on there too. Towards the end of the week we'll move on to writing equations for proportional relationships. IXL skill K.4 is a good practice of this skill.
EfS: Students are prepping for International Towne In January. International Towne provides students with a global economic simulation. They pick jobs and countries and then on the day, they will run the show.
Sports: Basketball season is under way for both boys and girls.
Science: Feel free to start asking students what they might want to do for their science fair project. In the near future, they will be selecting ideas and getting started.
Extra: Each week, we are focusing on a trait of the week. This week, we are looking at Self Discipline. We will be tracking success in each class and at the end of the week students will receive a certificate to celebrate their demonstration of this important habit. If certain students are struggling with it, they will need to get a signed notice that goes home and returns back to us.
