We had a great time last week at Balarat. Hopefully, everyone enjoyed their extra day off and is ready for a week of learning and hard work.
Excursions: After Excursions, feel free to check out photos at the website to see some of the fun in action. No trips this week.
Reading and Writing: We will continue with Bullying themed passages and considering how author's develop a central idea or theme in a text. We will also be working on developing our narratives and getting the story moving along.
Math: This week in math we'll be continuing our adventure into positive and negative rational numbers. Last week students translated real world situations into equations with positives and negative numbers. This week we'll explore how to use the number line to solve addition and subtraction equations and eventually develop a faster algorithm for solving the same problems. I like to do this skill early on in the year because it will come up again when we do our algebra unit and then lots in higher grades. Getting lots of practice on this skill is key to becoming fluent. Try IXL skills C.1, C.2, C.3, C.4, and C.5.
EfS: Students are exploring school systems and beginning to tackle the school system of bullying as a way to learn about systems. They will also be tackling their own systems.
Sports: Cross Country and Soccer are up and running. Students can still get involved, so please sign up if you want to participate. Soccer can use 2 more boys!
Science: Students are learning about how to engage in strong scientific explorations in groups with fun labs.
Extra: Dojo is up and running. We will get forms out if you have not connected to the program yet.
Thanks,
7th Grade Team
