Excursions:
Tuesday: We will be going to the DADS landfill site tomorrow to learn about where our stuff goes when we are done with it. This will be a quick trip and we will only be gone from 9-11.
Reading and Writing: We will be reading about extraction and its effects on the environment and economy. Students have started drafting their research-based arguments. We will be constructing our body paragraphs this week. Students will also be preparing their information for Parent Teacher Conferences.
Math: This week for math we're moving on to our 3rd unit of percentages. It's a fairly short unit 2-3 weeks and connects nicely to the unit we just wrapped up on ratios and proportions. We'll start off on Monday reviewing converting between fractions, decimals, and percents (review of a 6th grade skill) and then move right along to solving 7th grade level percent problems, especially using bar models. Look for regular homework each night this week. Students should be able to use their notes and classwork to help with problems at home. Online skills that are great to practice with this topic include IXL L.1, L.2, L.5, L.6, and L.7.
EfS: Students are learning about the nature of extraction in the material life cycle of products. This includes where the material for our stuff comes from, how it ends up in our stuff and the effect that has on the environment and workers.
Sports: Football and Volleyball keep playing games and the Basketball season for both boys and girls is around the corner.
Extra:
Parent Teacher Conferences: We will be available next week for PTC meetings. We will send a paper copy home of the schedule, but it is easier if you can click on the link and write in your name.
There is no school this Friday.
