Welcome to the weekly 7th grade update! These emails are designed to keep you up to date on what's happening inside and outside the classroom here in the seventh grade.
General News
- Spring Conferences are coming on February 24th - 27th. Teachers will schedule conferences for students who will benefit from another meeting at this point in the year, but otherwise, this round is optional. Please feel free to contact Mr. Piza or Mr. Logan for a conference if you have any concerns about your child or simply want to touch base.
- International Towne pictures can be found on our website! Also, follow these links for videos during the event! This was a super cool event! Video1 / Video2.
- Volunteer Opportunity - Interested in walking or running? Have some free time to volunteer? Our 100 Mile Club chapter is planning a 5K walk/run event and need your help. If you're interested in volunteering your time either during the event or in preparation, we can use you. Please contact Mr. Logan at [email protected]. Thanks!
Reading
Students are reading a variety of sources (textbook, and primary source material) to answer a complicated question and then create a presentation in which they teach other students about their topic and provide the answer to their question.
Writing
We are starting our argument unit. Students will be reviewing the parts of an argument (claim, evidence, warrants, counter claims) with murder mysteries and other simple situations.
EfS
Students will begin a new unit that involves considering the role of philanthropy in economics and begin working towards their own philanthropic project (organizing a race for a cause). Along the way, we expect to learn a bunch about healthy choices and working effectively in a group to get our work done.
Math
This week continues the work of last week as we steadily increase our ability to operate on equations. Again, encourage your student to allow the math to be confusing until we have the right amount of practice. We'll get better with more time to practice. Remember to check your student's SchoolNet account for quiz results and check here for assignments and lessons. We are in lessons 5 thru 8 this week. Remember, tutoring is held Tuesday afternoons, 3:45-4:45!
