- Conferences are coming up next week (Oct 2nd-5th). Thanks to those of you who have already signed up. If you haven't signed up, click here to enter in the time and date yourself. - Culture festival is this Thursday from 4-6:30 at DGS. It's an amazing event where we get to celebrate all the amazing cultures that make up the DGS community. Activities include a parade, singing, dancing, and food. Come join!
- International Towne field trip is next Thursday October 5th. Students will run a day long world trade simulation. We are preparing for our jobs and countries now (see EFS). If you'd like to be a parent chaperone for this trip, let us know.

Math:
Topics = This week we are finishing our first unit on rational numbers and starting our second unit on rates and ratios. Students will have their 3rd and final formative assessment on this topic on Tuesday. I'll have the data ready to share at conferences next week.
Essential Questions = How do you keep the rules for adding and subtracting straight from multiplying and dividing? What are the rules?
IXL skills = H.6 Add and subtract rational numbers
Reading/Writing:
Topics = We will be reviewing using STEAL to analyze a character and exploring characters and conflict to analyze theme. In writing, the students have started their Values essays. They will be trying different hook options for introductions and working on how best to organize essays.
Essential Questions = What values have you chosen? How do they help you in life? How will you live them? What is the theme of a story? What does STEAL stand for? How does that help you understand a character?
Science:
Topics = How do we write an entire experiment? Now that students have practiced writing a procedure we must design a clear experiment.
Essential Questions = Students will perform and respond to their paper towel testing experiment. What is your testable question? What is your procedure?
Education for Sustainability (EfS)
Topics = This week students will be assigned their country and position and begin their preparations for our International Towne simulation field trip on October 15th. Students will research information on their country, and also learn what their responsibilities are before and during International Towne.
Essential Questions = What position did you get for International Towne? Which country? What are your position responsibilities
English Language Acquisition:
Topics = How does my time in school relate to the world of work and to life at home and in the community?
Essential Questions = What careers would be interesting to me and how can I make informed career decisions?
