Thank you to every family that made it out last week for conferences. We appreciated getting the time to discuss how the year is going.
Extra: There will be a change to the way that handle computer use from here on out. There have been a number of accidents and computers that have been taken out of circulation for us. This has left us with less computers than we need to meet the one-to-one model. We are using this week to assess our new system and will return computer use next week. We have tried to be clear with students that this is not a consequence, but an adjustment driven by a lack of computers. Computers will continue to be an everyday part of our work and life at school and we look forward to getting them back in the mix next week. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Excursions: No excursions this week.
Reading and Writing: We are working on reading nonfiction and analyzing how an author develops their argument. This week, we will be reading about distribution and globalization. Additionally, we will put some finishing moves on our argument essays to complete our drafts.
Math: This week we wrap up our percent unit on Monday and take our percentage formative test on Tuesday. On Wednesday through Friday we will be working on a scaled drawing dream apartment project. Students who are on track for the project shouldn't have much or any work to bring home as homework. In the middle of the week we will be voting for one recipe scale up project to make as a class. We will then enjoy the results of our cooking in class on Friday. In terms of IXL skills to practice we aren't learning a ton of new skills this week and are instead reinforcing concepts we've already been introduced to so it's a great time to get caught up on any missing skills. Try out IXL anything in the percent or "M" category. We've done many of them in class but making sure they have 80% on the skills is a great way to fill in any gaps.
EfS: Students are exploring the material life cycle of products.
Sports: Football and volleyball will finish this week and basketball is on the horizon.
