Welcome to the weekly 7th grade update! These emails are designed to keep you up to date on what's happening inside and outside the classroom here in the seventh grade.
- Balarat Field Trip! We had an awesome opportunity to go to the outdoor education center in Jamestown, Colorado and had to take it. Half of the grade enjoyed a great day out on the ropes course, testing their limits. The other half will attend on Monday, September 8th. Please sign and return the permission slip. We need 2 parent volunteers for this trip. If you are free to attend for the day: 8:15am - 3:15pm, please email Mr. Logan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
- The 100 Mile Club is in full swing! The 100 Mile Club is a program offering the challenge to run/walk/jog 100 miles over the course of a school year. Click here for more information. Most students still need to submit $10 for full participation in the program which includes a T-shirt at the 25-mile mark. We are beginning daily runs in the neighborhood and would love parent volunteers who can help monitor students during recess (12:30 - 1pm). Please email Mr. Logan if you can help.
This week we will focus on standard 7.1 cite explicit text evidence and how it supports 7.2 identify the development of central themes. We will be reading non-fiction articles including one about a rubbish dump in the Pacific Ocean and Bullying from the perspective of a famous young adult author.
Students will begin brainstorming ideas for a piece of realistic fiction that they will be writing. In addition, we will be establishing goals for our writing work to ensure that we are setting challenging targets.
Students will be learning about the stages in material life cycle of a product as they begin to consider the question, "What is a good product?"
Welcome to Pre-Algebra! We've taken the first week to focus on thinking mathematically using number lines and bar models. We will carry that work into the start of our first unit on Ratios & Proportional Relationships. Much of our study will follow the EngageNY curricular materials you can find by clicking here.
